The Wisdom Of Mary

Luke 1:46: And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, 47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

Notice that Mary called God her Saviour. She was wise enough to know that she was a sinner who needed a Saviour and rejoiced that God was her Saviour. Jesus* conception was immaculate but Mary was not. Jesus was without sin and the Holy Spirit by whom Jesus was conceived was without sin but Mary was not. The word immaculate does not appear in the Bible. It was never applied to Mary in the Bible. She knew more than anyone else that she had been a virgin and that Jesus* conception had been a miracle.

John 2:1: And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: 2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. 3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. 4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. 5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. This was not disrespect for His mother. It was banter between a perfect son and an adoring mother. It was Him reminding her that He knew what was best and He knew the right time for everything. Mary had been the mother of Jesus for about 30 years. She knew Him. She had learned to trust Him. She knew that He knew everything better than she did. She knew that no matter what her opinion was, Jesus always knew better and always did what was right and best and He always did everything at exactly the right time. He had never been wrong about anything and He never did anything at the wrong time. Jesus had forever been the perfect Son of God, His perfect Father. For 30 years he had been the perfect son of the sinner Mary and the perfect adopted son of the sinner Joseph. While the Bible does not tell us that He used His miraculous power in those first 30 years, He had always understood the needs of others and had always unselfishly met those needs. Mary knew that when she had been wrong He had been right. She knew that when others had been wrong He had been right. She was wise enough to trust Jesus no matter what and to know that others should trust Him too. She told others to obey Him.

His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

Mary also watched her beloved Son die on that cruel cross. I am sure she was among those who saw Him after His resurrection, heard His final words on earth, saw Him ascend into Heaven and heard the proclamation that He would come again.

Acts 1:9: And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; 11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

Do you have the wisdom of Mary? Do you adore Jesus? Have you learned that you are a sinner in need of Him? Are you wise enough to trust Him always? Have you received Him? Do you tell others to trust Him? Are you among those who long to see Him come again?

1 Thessalonians 4:15: For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: (Mary will be in that group.) 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
